                         Because of the COVID-19 epidemic, we had to move our senior thesis show online. In partnership                          with Dickinson’s Trout Gallery, we developed a virtual exhibition to display our work.

Projects

Fall 2019          Abstraction of the Figure in Painting

                         Independent study with Professor Ward Davenny

                         Initially worked with live models and self portrait to develop a sense of motion and form.                                      Progressed to explore fractured images with mirrors and photo collages.  

Fall 2019          Sustainability as Social Capital

                         Independent Study with Professor Dan Schubert

                         Researched literature on intersections between sustainability, identity development, and

                         the formation of social groups. Developed questions to explore the impacts of         

                         environmental sustainability efforts on students’ sense of self-worth and belonging.

Why Dorian Gray Can’t Live With Himself: A Dramaturgical Analysis

Investigated connections between Erving Goffman’s dramaturgical theory and the interactions of characters in The Picture of Dorian Gray. Presented findings at Roots and Branches of Sociology conference, August 2018.

Addressing Gun Violence in the United States

Investigated statistics on gun violence in the United States. Explored which forms of violence are most common, which weapons tend to be used and which psychological and social factors might increase risk. Researched and evaluated potential policy responses. Published in Gettysburg Social Sciences Review Fall 2018.

Mosaic Program: Climate Change and Human Security in Nepal

Collaborated on research exploring how climate change impacts the livelihoods of people in Nepal. Designed interview questions targeted toward households, community leaders and environmental experts. Analyzed results of interviews and developed a report with a team of three other students. Collaborated on an extended report in an independent study the following semester.

Center for Civic Learning and Action, Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA

Community Impact and Assessment Fellow

Develop strategies to assess participation in and impact of Dickinson’s community engagement programs, and provide suggestions to move forward. Collaborate on reorganizing programs and developing new ones during CCLA’s introductory year at Dickinson.

Assist with research on civil rights activism in Detroit: transcribe recorded interviews, collect primary documents.

Tree Street Youth, Lewiston, ME

Summer Intern, June 2018-August 2018

Collaborated with other interns to operate a k-12 summer camp. Planned lessons to help youth develop artistic and critical thinking skills. Provided guidance and support for youth participants. Engaged with students and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds.
